Cambridge A Level Chemistry 9701 Past Papers with Mark Schemes
Every Cambridge International AS & A Level Chemistry (9701) paper in the collection, organised by year, session and paper. Pick a year, a session, and Paper 1 to 5, then open the question paper and its mark scheme side by side. Timed practice on full papers, marked line by line against the mark scheme, is the most reliable way to find what still needs work before the exam.

Prefer Practice by Topic?
Full papers are best for timing and exam technique. For one weak topic at a time, use the A Level topic-wise resources or the resource search. Other boards and qualifications are on the full list of past papers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Cambridge AS & A Level Chemistry past papers are here?
Syllabus 9701 papers from the February/March, May/June and October/November series between 2017 and 2026 that are in the collection, with question papers and mark schemes for Papers 1 to 5, plus examiner reports, grade thresholds, Paper 3 confidential instructions and inserts where available.
What are Papers 1 to 5?
As printed on the papers: Paper 1 is Multiple Choice, Paper 2 is AS Level Structured Questions, Paper 3 is Advanced Practical Skills, Paper 4 is A Level Structured Questions and Paper 5 is Planning, Analysis and Evaluation. AS Level candidates sit Papers 1 to 3 and A Level candidates sit all five.
What does the variant number mean, such as 9701/42 and 9701/43?
Many series have two or three versions of the same paper (variants), shown by the last digit of the code. Paper 3 has more, because the practical is set up in different ways. They test the same syllabus; which one a student sits depends on the exam centre, so practising several is useful.
What are the confidential instructions and the insert on Paper 3?
Paper 3 is a practical exam, and Cambridge publishes the confidential instructions that tell the centre how to set up the materials, so teachers can see exactly what was provided. Some Paper 3 papers also come with an insert, which is listed beside that paper.
Why are some years or series missing?
Not every series is in the collection yet. There is nothing from 2020 and no May/June 2019 papers, and October/November 2025 will be added once it is available. A paper whose question paper or mark scheme is missing says so plainly instead of leaving a dead link.
Are the 2026 papers here?
Yes, as far as they are published. February/March 2026 has all five papers with their mark schemes, plus the examiner report and grade thresholds. May/June 2026 has every question paper and mark scheme in the collection, the Paper 3 confidential instructions and the examiner report; its grade thresholds will be added when available. October/November 2026 will be added after that series.
Why is there a short wait before a paper opens?
Papers are free to use. The short countdown before each file opens helps keep the site running while the files load.
